The heart of meditation is the mind :: Luangpu Pramote Pamojjo 22 Oct 2022

The heart of the practice is the mind.

Thus, practice meditation on an object, any object, regardless of whether it’s calm or not, and keep being aware of our own mind. Restless mind is the mind that wanders to mental objects, such as wandering to think, wandering to sink in the object of meditation, and then the mind becomes dull and stays like that– that is, the mind isn’t truly calm. At the moment we recognize that the mind has wandered off, calmness will arise briefly – for only one mind moment. Practice often, until self-awareness arises in high frequency. I teach this method, because we can’t do Jhāna. Most people can’t do Jhāna, so they need to use the method I teach. Keep growing the momentarily Samādhi. Once the mind has become powerful enough, it will become rooted in awareness and luminous. It’ll feel like the mind that is in Upacāra Samādhi (Access Concentration), that is, being rooted in awareness and luminous. From small beginnings, it’s like to keep dripping water into a jar, drop after drop; eventually, the jar will be full. In the same way, the mind will become powerful, rooted in awareness, and luminous. At this stage, we can use this mind to cultivate wisdom. If the mind isn’t rooted in awareness, don’t talk about wisdom cultivation – it can’t be done. If the mind still wanders back and forth, or feeble – it won’t work. Thus, don’t neglect what I teach. Every day, practice meditation, and be aware of our own mind. When the mind wanders to think, recognize it. When the mind wanders to focus, recognize it. Eventually, we will attain the mind with the right Samādhi.

What is your Life Purpose - Happiness or Liberation? :: Luangpu Pramote Pamojjo 13 Aug 2022

    Dhamma.com
    Mar 20, 2025

Each meditation student aspires for something different. Most wish for happiness. Only few aspire to attain liberation. Wishing for happiness, requires one to perform good deeds such as being generous and keeping precepts. There are very few meditators who wish for liberation. Most people wish to be reborn and to live happy lives eternally. Those wishing for liberation are a few in number. It isn’t a surprise that with countless people practicing generosity, morality, and the making of merit, those attaining liberation are few. Our choices are based on our desires. If we wish for happiness in the cycle of rebirth, then make merit. If we wish for something higher than that… liberation… then practice cultivating morality, Samādhi, and wisdom. We must do this as it will reduce the number of lives in the cycle of rebirth.

Dhamma Practice :: Luangpu Pramote Pamojjo 12 Aug 2023

    keep practicing deliberately.
Observe the 5 Precepts. Every day, practice in a format by having a home base and keep being aware of your own mind. Do not focus too much and do not stare but just be aware of the mind. When the mind wanders to think, be aware. When the mind wanders to focus, be aware. The rest of the time, be mindful during the day. The eyes can see. The ears can hear. The nose can smell. The body can feel and the mind can think. It is not that you can’t think but whatever emotions arise through your eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind, which lead to some changes in the mind like being happy or being sad, be aware. If the mind feels of wholesomeness or unwholesomeness, be aware. If the mind wanders through the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind, just be aware. Be aware the best you can. These are the 3 assignments for you. Keep the 5 Precepts. Every day, keep practicing in a format while observing your own mind. The third assignment is being mindful in your daily life. When there are any emotions that arise through your eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind, which lead to any changes in your mind, be aware. If you can complete these 3 assignments, then the path to nirvana is not too far. It is not out of reach. As long as you keep practicing continuously and be patient. Listen to Dhamma teachings until you have some good understanding. Then realize the principle of Dhamma practice. A very important factor is to be patient.

Everything is Changing All the Time :: Luangpu Pramote Pamojjo 7 Jan 2023

    Dhamma.com
    May 1, 2025

Nothing can stay the same for long; everything must change. The things we know and the things we’re familiar with are constantly changing. Day passes, and new phenomena come to replace the old ones. The new generation replaces the old generation. The world keeps spinning, so we live with it knowingly. Don't dwell on the past, it's gone and passed. Don't worry too much about the future. Everything is constantly changing. Be mindful and observant. If our mind truly understands this truth, it will gradually detach from the world. Our body and mind are changing every day; watch them mindfully. The external world is the same; it keeps changing as the years pass by. The world changes, our body changes and our mind fluctuate between happiness and suffering in a constant state of agitation. If we practice meditation for a year, our mind will become calm, upright and stronger. But if we follow defilements for a year, our mind becomes weaker. Virtue and vice are both impermanent. Learn to see the truth. We don't aim for goodness, happiness, or peace because they are not permanence. We practice meditation to see the truth. Let our mind see the truth. The truth of the body and mind is that both are impermanent, suffering and non-self. The world outside is also impermanent, suffering and non-self. Feed your mind with true information, which is the three characteristics. Once the mind learns the truth that there is nothing in the world except suffering, it will let go of the world.
